Full-time Professor of Applied Economics at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (Spain)
She has a PhD in Economics and Business Management from the ULPGC and a Master Degree in Econometrics from the University of Essex (England). Additionally, she has been General Director of Research, Technological Development and Innovation for the Department of Economy, Treasury and Innovation of the Balearic Government from 2004 to 2007. Her research focuses on international economy (rural economy), competitiveness analysis and innovation in tourist industries, and circular economy.
Moreover, she has published different papers in scientific journals such as the Annals of Tourism Research, Journal of Agricultural Economics, Tourism Management and Tourism Economics. She is co-editor with Jafar Jafari of two books edited internationally within the Book Series: Innovation and Tourism. Connecting Theory & Practice published by Cognizant Communication Corporation, and co-author of the Encyclopaedia of Tourism (2nd edition, Springer 2015). She has participated as researcher in projects on innovation and tourism, international commerce and/or circular economy of the CYCIT (National R+D+I Programme), of the IV Framework Programme and INTERREG projects, as well as an expert in consultancy jobs for the Government of Chile, Government of the Balearic Islands, Cotec Foundation for Technological Innovation and the DG Regional Policy and DG Employment (European Commission), among others. For years she has been member of the Commission for Business R+D and the Commission for the R+D Governance of the Cotec Foundation.
