Tourism is the main driving force of the Canary economy. Despite this fact, roles played by their main tourism municipalities in terms of Canary social, political and economic structures do not always correspond to their real weight. Five municipalities have taken decisive steps to unite in order to defend their common interests. Leaving aside their differences, names and islands, St Bartolomé de Tirajana, Adeje, Mogán, Arona and Guía de Isora have agreed to coordinate their actions and qualify their destinations in healthy competition terms. Hence, these municipalities demand an improvement of their infrastructures, equipment, a better integration of tourists and residents, and above all, an active participation in the preparation and implementation of future tourism strategies.
