Marta Jacob

Professor and Researcher of The Applied Economics Faculty, Universitat de Les Illes Balears

She is a University full Professor of the Applied Economics Faculty at the Universitat de les Illes Balears. Master´s degree in Econometrics by the University of Essex (England) and Phd in Economics by The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. General Director of Research, Technological Development and Innovation from the Ministry of Economy, Treasury and Innovation of the Govern de les Illes Balears from 2004 to 2007. Her research area are the analysis of competitiveness and innovation on tourism sectors, the optimal pricing strategies in the hotel sector and the circular economy on tourism. Publications on journals such as Annals of Tourism Research, International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, Journal of Agricultural Economic, Journal of Vacation Marketing, Sustainability, Tourism Economics and Tourism Management; Co-editor together with Jafar Jafari of two books, in the series of Innovation and Tourism. Connecting Theory & Practice, published by Cognizant Communication Corporation; and co-author of The Encyclopaedia of Tourism (2nd edition, Springer, 2015). She has participated as a researcher in projects about innovation and tourism, international trade and/or circular economy from CYCIT, from the 6th Framework program and INTERREG projects. She has also participated as an expert in consulting work with the Government of Chile, the Government of Illes Balears, the Cotec Foundation for Technology Innovation, SEGITTUR, the DG Regional Policy and the DG Employment (European Commission). She has been member of the Commission of R&D Business and the Commission for the Governance of R&D of the Cotec Foundation for years. She organizes an annual Tourism Innovation Conference (www.visitinnovation.com). She has more than 15 years of experience in contracts and projects for the design and impact evaluation of innovation policies and more than 10 years of experience on impact assessment of EU regional policies.
