Dr Alzúa-Sorzabal received a PhD in International Tourism from Purdue University, USA. Currently, she is a professor at Nebrija University and holds a dual affiliation with Deusto University. Dr Alzúa-Sorzabal is the director of Telefónica-Nebrija, Chair of Tourism Intelligence, and the principal researcher leading the Research Group on Smart Tourism Research and Innovation. In addition, she is a co-founder of Lurmetrika Labs, a data-driven tourism company. She also has been the Executive Director of the Competence Research Center Research in Tourism, CICtourGUNE.
Dr Alzúa-Sorzabal has coordinated several academic programs, including the Erasmus Mundus Master of Arts in Euroculture. In addition, she has lectured in tourism and research methods in the undergraduate, post-graduate and doctorate programs.
As her main scientific achievements, Dr Alzúa-Sorzabal has headed several competitive research projects and collaborated with the Basque, Spanish, and international public administrations. In addition, she has been the principal researcher in more than 21 projects running a significant research budget.
Dr Alzúa-Sorzabal’s scope focuses on tourism, smart destinations, and advanced analytics. She is the author of several articles dealing with tourism and information technology. Dr Alzúa-Sorzabal has participated in more than sixty-five publications among books, book chapters, and scientific journals on tourism, big data, advanced analytics, and smart destinations as a main scientific achievement. She is currently a member of the Editorial Review Board of the Journal of Information Technology & Tourism and assiduously collaborates as an evaluator in tourism journals.
